|
|
BIO:
Ricky and Karen Dick have been
long known for their theatrical Halloween event Castle Blood,
now getting ready for its 16th season in SW Pennsylvania.
Castle Blood combines story telling, magic, and true interaction
with the public to send patrons on a bizarre quest to solve
the problems that are laid out before them for the night.
The Castle is a very character driven attraction and actors
from all over the U.S come to take part. Half of the present
cast has been participating for over 10 years.
|
As their alter egos, Gravely and Grizelda
MacCabre, Ricky and Karen and many of the other Castles
Denizens have turned those talents to the small screen. Castle
Blood's Midnight Monster Hop combines the couples 30 years
of experience as costumers, performers, and haunters into a new
take on the Horror Host Genre. They have combined their attraction
and the TV show into one seamless event.
Every Saturday night at midnight, all year
round, Castle Blood fans can tune in to Pittsburgh's RTN channel,
throughout all of western Pennsylvania or on CSMTV in southern
Maryland to see the goings on at the Castle when the public isn't
there. Gravely hosts a classic B movies for the evening while
the rest of the cast goes about their normal' routine
and viewers are all welcomed along for the ride. They also use
their show to highlight and promote Haunted attractions, often
using haunt footage from around the country in the show
Not content with just entertaining western
Pennsylvania, plans are currently under way for the show to be
broadcast in other states as well.Episodes of Castle Blood's Midnight
Monster Hop are now available on DVD. The DVDs can also be purchased
at wholesale to stock haunted gift shops. Please come talk to
Ricky and Karen to see how the show can be used free of charge

Chris
Handa - Spooky Magic
Saturday: Use of Magic in a Haunted
Attraction
|
|
During this session, Chris
Handa, Magic Director for Castle Blood's haunted attraction
and weekly television show, will discuss different ways to
script and use magic effects in a haunted attraction. The
program will include discussion of t |
he creation of original material as well
as the use of commercially available effects, book and DVD resources,
and ways to work with both magician and non-magician cast members.
As a part of the program, Chris will demonstrate and teach some
of the effects he has designed for personal use as well as use by
himself and others at Castle Blood.
Sunday: Terror Outside the Walls: the Basics of Queue Entertainment
Chris Handa shares his years of experience as a queue and crowd
entertainer as a part of a haunted attraction as well as for companies
like Disney and Nickelodeon Studios. In addition to specific examples
to use with everyone from beginning cast members to experienced
entertainers, Chris will discuss those other roles that front-line
cast members fill as costumed entertainers and relate entertainment
to every haunted venue from small single-haunt attractions to scream
parks.
|
|
BIO:
In addition to 13 plus seasons of haunting and work with about
a half dozen different attractions, Chris Handa brings years
of experience to haunting from two different arenas: his life
experience as a professional entertainer and as a volunteer/event
manager. A magician since age 8, Chris began to apply his
experiences with magic to different environments in high school.
He met others with mutual interests in haunting and magic,
and learned that he could have fun with both as a performer,
designer, and teacher of spooky magic. |
For 10+ seasons, he has worked with Castle
Blood as "house magician" and magic designer/consultant
for both the seasonal haunted attraction and CASTLE BLOOD'S MIDNIGHT
MONSTER HOP, a weekly horror host with an ensemble cast that airs
in several markets. Chris has presented spooky magic to several
organizations outside of haunting, consulted with several attraction
owners and managers, and has taught magic at numerous haunt conventions
and gatherings since 2001. He has written two smaller publications
containing his original magic scripts and is in the process of completing
a larger book on his experience with the design and performance
of magic at Castle Blood.
As a manager/administrator, Chris' attention to detail has put him
in lead positions with theatrical events, conventions and gatherings,
camp programs, and haunted attractions and events. Chris has considerable
experience in the area of event and volunteer management as a former
Professional Employee of the Boy Scouts of America, and has a knack
for both finding seemingly-impossible solutions to emergency problems
and finding ways to get paying customers to empty their pockets
of cash before leaving events. With Castle Blood, Chris works on
the administration/operations side with concession/front of house
operations as well as in his role as Safety/Compliance Officer.
In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, he is a registered Class I
Amusement Inspector and is happy to share tips and advice to help
other haunts work with their state and local officials.
Chris has worked in haunts since 1984 and is a fan of all types
of haunted attractions from home haunts to county fair trailer mazes
to the dark rides at Universal and Disney. He'll travel half a day
just to see an attraction, and honestly believes that seeing any
haunt is better than a day without seeing a haunt at all. He and
his wife Kari have visited more than 100 attractions since their
marriage in 1999. Their daughter Katelyn (3) has visited many haunts
as well, but still isn't sure whether she likes all of them or not.

Jason Gowin (formerly
of Ghost Hunters, Inc.)
|
|
BIO:
Jason Gowin began his actual trek into the unknown back in
the fall of 1998 with the infamous paranormal investigation
group Ghost Hunters, Incorporated, where he spent the better
part of 10 years checking out anything and everything unexplained
around their area. Upon meeting George Lutz, the man who was
the basis for the Amityville Horror book and movies, and being
shown a new path Jason changed his mind about certain things
in the paranormal and needed a new way in which to search
for it that suited |
his new direction. Since that time he
has done serious explorations all over the country and Canada investigating
some of the worlds most famous hauntings. Although he left the group
in 2007, he has continued searching out proof of the afterlife and
finding it in haunted houses, storied battlefields and long forgotten
graveyards. Jason has appeared numerous times on Ghostly Talk Paranormal
Radio, Encounters Paranormal Radio and the Ghostman and Demon Hunter
show. His investigations have been published in the Encyclopedia
of Haunted Places by Jeff Bellanger. He has also been the basis
for several widely released documentaries including New Gil Pictures
The Graveyard Shift and Fight or Flight Films award
winning GHI vs BIGFOOT amongst other videos about paranormal
phenomenon.

Thomas A. Fritz
Co-Founder
Society for Paranormal Research and Investigation
|
|
BIO:
Tom's interest in the spiritual and paranormal dates back
well into his childhood. Starting about 12 years ago, he took
that interest on the road as he began his pilgrimage to some
of the most haunted and spiritual sites in the world. His
trips to Great Britain have included stops at the Cathedral
in Glasgow (and the Necropolis), Edinburgh Castle, Culloden
Moor, Avebury (the village within the stone circle), the Tower
of London, Loch Ness and, of course, Stonehenge, to |
name but a few. Back in the states Tom
is a frequent visitor to New Orleans, Salem, MA and Gettysburg among
other paranormal touch stones, but these trips have now taken a
back seat.
A little more than 5 years ago, Tom, and his wife Robin, set out
to actively investigate local hauntings. After some time as part
of 2 different investigation groups, Robin and Tom founded the Society
for Paranormal Research and Investigation (S.P.R.I.).
S.P.R.I. was created not only to capture evidence
of the paranormal, but also to educate our clients (and our community),
listen to their stories and allay their fears.
Tom uses his 15+ years of experience in engineering
(environmental, heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration)
and construction to help him separate the normal from the paranormal.
"A cold spot isn't a "cold spot" until I can't
figure out what's causing it."
The compassion and expertise of S.P.R.I. has
made them well known and respected in Northeast PA, both with
residential clients and business owners. Tom (and S.P.R.I.) have
been highlighted in The Scranton Times and Weekender newspapers
and have been featured on WILK News Radio (103.1FM) on Sue Henry's
call-in radio show.
To find out more about Tom Fritz and the Society
for Paranormal Research and Investigation visit www.spriparanormal.com.
Seminar: 1hr
SPRI Files: True Tales
Join Tom Fritz as he opens up SPRI case files and gives you a
first hand look at real people and their vivid, sometimes terrifying
experiences. Shadow people, physical attacks, disembodied voices
and clenched eyed prayers in the night. You may be very surprised
to hear what your neighbors are experiencing.

Making Sense of LED Lighting by Joel
Rybacki of Boiling Ponds Cemetery
|
|
BIO:
Joel has been experimenting with low-output and high-output
LEDs for the last 5 years. Starting with mini illuminators
for his tombstones, Joel quickly saw the potential of this
newer technology being a boon to the haunt industry - Low-Voltage,
no glass, little heat. Searching for commercial LED lamps,
he quickly found that very few companies were attempting to
bring this new |
technology to the haunt industry. Those
companies that were offering usable LED li ghting, were charging
exorbitant amounts, unaffordable to the average haunter. Having
a need the current lighting industry could not meet, Joel began
experimenting with high-output LEDs focusing on how they could be
best utilized for the unique lighting requirements of haunters.
Currently, Joel continues
to work on building cheap and efficient LED drivers, compact yet
powerful customized lamp designs, one-off designs, and experimenting
with new technologies so the average haunter can best utilize
this future lighting technology, today, and within budget.
Seminar Description:
Making Sense of LED
Lighting by Joel Rybacki of Boiling Ponds Cemetery
The United States
Congress has mandated that starting in 2012, current
incandescent light bulbs cannot be sold in the United States -
starting
with 100 watt incandescent bulbs. Have you thought about how you
are
going to replace those flood-lights and spot lights you currently
use
within the next 4 haunting seasons?
From battery-powered
LEDs the size of a grain of rice that can
illuminate a whole room, to practical, screw-in replacement bulbs,
Joel
will demonstrate the various types of LEDs currently available
in the
marketplace. Joel will also explain what to look for when buying
LEDs
for building your own lights, what you should expect from currently
available commercial LED lights and what you'll see in the future.

the world of haunted attractions and you will learn to recognize

Mike has come a long way from his very first "sponsorship"

sticky situations. Learn proven tips and techniques on sponsorships
writing and understand how to package your haunt to be attractive
to potential sponsors. Mike will divulge the top five features Terror

when they receive and consider sponsorship proposals. Discover better
methods for letter writing, how to identify and package what your

how to follow up, what to do when you get a yes, what to do when
you get a no and more!
I just wanted to add a quick update!
I have spent a lot of time working with our
title sponsor for Terror on the Fox. For a while now, my contact
in the Oneida Casino Marketing Department has been working on
a "mathematical equation" that will help you determine
dollar value and "impressions" for a sponsorship.
I am excited to announce that I have been given this paperwork
and the go ahead to share it with EVERYONE in my Sponsorship classes!
I believe this paperwork will help anyone and everybody in their
quest to acquire sponsors for their event!
This "equation" will help you to
determine and prove value to your current and future sponsors!
